Also on the bill is Mark L. Feinsod's A Sense of Entitlement, a superb 30-minute stimulation of the senses. The story centers on Jessica, an underachieving art student with a French boyfriend and her daddy's credit card, who lives in Manhattan with her half-sister, Caroline, a former model. After yet another night of partying, the pair get the dreaded call from Pops, who cuts off the cash flow. The duo endure bouts of existential dread; meanwhile, cryptic and enticing trouble unravels when Father comes into town with his gun-toting assistant. With a sorrowful, Modest Mouse-y soundtrack, a sharp script, and vibrant cinematography (reminiscent of Red Desert), A Sense of Entitlement establishes a privileged world that's less sunny but far more enticing than the Los Angeles beach.
-Sasha Statman-Weil, the Village Voice, August 28th, 2001
Being shown with "Cupid's Mistake," which opens today at the Den of Cin at Two Boots Video (44 Avenue A, at East Third Street, East Village), is "A Sense of Entitlement," a 28-minute short that confirms your worst suspicions about thin, rich, blond ex-models: they aren't very nice. Filming in 35 millimeter (a nice change from the indie video norm), the director, Mark L. Feinsod, stages some adept deep- focus, long-take shots that at times evoke Orson Welles. (There is a kitchen scene that could be a quote from "The Magnificent Ambersons.") But his story is awkwardly constructed and full of unnecessary ambiguities. The cast includes Rike Scholle as the ex-model, who has turned to hooking to support her fashion habits; Nicole Severine as her sympathetic half-sister, an art student; and David Kampman as the young women's father, a mysterious Wall Street sort with a price on his head.
-Dave Kehr, the New York Times, August 24th, 2001
An acid commentary on the consequences of free-wheeling spending...
-Phil Hall, Mark L. Feinsod: Beyond Criticism, Film Threat, June 25th, 2001
